1. Overview
Walkgate helps you reduce screen time by blocking selected apps until you walk enough steps to earn unlock time.
We do not require an account. Most information used by the app is processed on your device to provide blocking, step tracking, and statistics.
If you use optional paid features, subscription status is handled through RevenueCat and your platform’s app store (Apple App Store on iOS, Google Play on Android). Walkgate does not operate its own user accounts or cloud database for your health, usage, or blocking data.
2. Information We Use
2.1. Step and activity data
- What: Daily step counts and step history.
- Source:
- iOS: Apple Health , if permitted.
- Android: Health Connect, if available and permitted; otherwise your device’s step-counter sensor (with Activity Recognition permission).
- Why: To calculate earned screen time, show stats, and track walk goals/streaks.
- Access: Read-only. Walkgate does not write health records.
Note (Android): Step history beyond today generally requires Health Connect. The motion-sensor fallback is used for current-day counting when Health Connect is unavailable.
2.2. App usage and blocking data
- What:
- Apps you choose to block.
- Time spent using blocked apps (to deduct earned unlock time).
- Screen-time statistics shown in the app.
- Source:
- Android: Usage Access (
UsageStatsManager). Walkgate may also read your list of installed launchable apps so you can pick apps to block.
- iOS: Apple’s Screen Time APIs (Family Controls / Device Activity). Apps are selected through Apple’s system picker and stored as opaque Apple tokens, not as package names on our servers.
- Why: To block selected apps, monitor usage, show statistics, and manage unlock time.
2.3. Settings and preferences you provide
- What: Walk goals, unlock rules, daily step goal, target screen time, estimated daily phone use, age range selected in onboarding, theme, language, onboarding status, streak/unlock state, and notification reminder settings (iOS).
